Phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. The 'official' definition refers typically to eMail and other electronic and Internet based attempts of obtaining credit card numbers, passwords, or other non-public personal data. However, these illegal acts can be applied to any form of fraudulent attempt of trying to obtain this information including a simple phone call.
